Glasvegas

Glasvegas is the happy medium between The Killers and Silversun Pickups. You take that- throw in some 50’s and 60’s influences as well and you get a band that’s super-talented, super-original, and super-good. Glasvegas’ U.S. debut is a record that plays well from start to finish except it has some enduring qualities that really stick with you after the record is over. The first thing to point out is that it really doesn’t dominate you and force you to listen, you’re just kind of coaxed into being drawn into the music. And once you are drawn in, it doesn’t dominate what you’re doing, it’s just a very casual albeit moving listening experience. The other thing that really stands out about Glasvegas is actually a connection with the first. All of these songs are catchy- they’re just not too catchy. Very rarely in music can you listen to something that is actually something you can sing to, and you really don’t realize it until you’re doing. Glasvegas is probably one of the most original acts to crossover from the UK in quite some time and they have something about them that makes them subtlety good. Songs you need to listen to included “Flowers & Football Tops”, “Geraldine”, “Polmont on My Mind”, and “Stabbed.” An outstanding debut.
