There are a lot of things to like about Farewell Fighter. There are a lot of recognizable influences. They’ve got the talent to find the moment like Mayday Parade. They have super-intelligent pop rock moments mixed with inspirational messages like Relient K. Then, they have melodies and lyrics like Motion City Soundtrack. As a fan of those three bands, I can tell you that Farewell Fighter molds together those acts perfectly and has the perfect amount of each on their new album Challenges. The album has a lot of appeal for listeners who are fans of the transitional phase of pop punk that happened a few years ago. Early on, it feels like they’re trying a little too hard to make something completely original, but in the middle of the album they find their way, and really carve out something special. “Golden”, “Love Lust”, “Never Have I Ever” and “See” are all brilliant songs that you won’t be able to stop listening to. They all have those influences that are easy to connect with, but Farewell Fighter add a lot of their own stylings to them. Including taking advantage of some insanely good guitar work. Challenges is definitely worth a listen, go and check it out now.
