For the interview and this article we got to sample the album and simply put – it’s amazing. Moon’s vocal is outstanding the songs written for this record – musically and lyrically are phenomenal too. There’s great original content and there’s a cover song here too. They recorded a version of Cyndi Lauper’s 80’s classic “True Colors.”
“We did a pledge campaign for the last album and one of the rewards was that we’d cover a song that someone picked and put it on YouTube. Somebody requested that song and we just went in and recorded it. It’s not really a Greek Fire song as much as it is as much as it a song that myself and my friend Matt built and Phil sang over. It’s not as much as a band effort as it is a Phil effort. But it’s so sweet and it’s so good that I think it fits with the record really well.”
So, what’s next for Greek Fire? Are they hitting the festival circuit this coming year? Are they planning a national tour? Not really. Phillips explained why they can’t do things the way they did them with Story of the Year.
“We’re going to be really selective about it,” he explained. “The reality of being in the business in 2017 is that we all have other jobs and other things we have to do. We have to do multiple things to pay the bills. Right now, we’re a lot more interested in writing songs and making cool media and videos that go along with it. That’s what next is producing some great content and putting that out there.”
We still expect Greek Fire to be playing shows sometime in 2017/2018 – even if it’s the summer of 2018 and there are just a couple of shows. These songs are too good not to play live – especially “Coming Out of The Rain” – it’s the perfect theme for this band. Things weren’t happy for these guys over a long stretch of time but they’ve gotten better and hopefully they’ll continue that way. Good music can do that for an artist; GREAT music will do that for thousands of people. “Coming Out of the Rain” is that type of song.
“HERE I AM, COMING OUT OF THE RAIN. COMING OUT OF THE HELL. COMING OUT OF THE PAIN. I CAN LIVE. I CAN FEEL. I CAN LOVE AND IT’S REAL. I CAN BE WHATEVER NOW. HERE I AM, COMING OUT OF THE RAIN.”
Sounds just about right. -aa
