Linkin Park recently provided a new update on their next studio album, their first since 2014's The Hunting Party, in which the band members discuss the records lyrical themes.
"There are songs that don't specifically talk about situations, they talk about a frame of thinking. Like, 'This is s**t that's going on inside my head,' or, 'This is something that I'm dealing with.' To me, also, it tells a story, but it's also revealing as well in another way, and that feels honest to me," frontman Chester Bennington says. "People ask me, 'You guys are in the studio, right?' 'Yeah.' 'Well, what's it like?' I'm, like, 'Well, we're just focused on writing really great songs that mean something to people.' We're trying to connect with people. We're trying to make a record that has f**king stellar songs that people wanna listen to all the time."
Guitarist Brad Delson added: "There's a certain amount of experimentation and failure, essentially trial and error that's baked into this process. We've made so many records and we clearly know how to make a record and we definitely didn't take the easy way out this time. The songs are shaping up so well, we just want them to be as phenomenal when we share them with you. as we imagine them in our heads."
