Jack White has become the latest in a long line of performers to ban the use of cell phones and other electronic devices at his concerts. Dave Chappelle, Axl Rose and Kanye West have recently made similar declarations.
The venue at which White is next scheduled to play has issued an official notice, stating:
"No photos, videos or audio recording devices allowed. We think you'll enjoy looking up from your gadgets for a little while and experience music and our shared love of it IN PERSON."
The notice also states that a bag-like tool called the "Yondr pouch" will be issued to each person carrying an electronic device, which will then be sealed inside it. The bag will be unlocked by staff on hand at the exit in a quick fashion. There will also be specific zones within the venue where participants can re-access their phones during the performance if need be.
In a recent interview with Conan O'Brien, White spoke about the issue at length and stated that:
"...I think it's distracting for the people in the back who are trying to really watch. They see a sea of blue screens in front of them between them and the artist...it's better to be in the moment."
