Less than a week ago, THE ALL-AMERICAN REJECTS and DASHBOARD CONFESSIONAL set out on a summer-long adventure. To commemorate the tour, both bands covered each other’s songs. The All-American Rejects recorded their own rendition of “Hands Down”, while Dashboard Confessional put their spin on “Move Along”.
Consequence of Sound premiered the tracks and can be heard below.

“’Hands Down’ is an open-hearted story of young love”, explained The All-American Rejects front man Tyson Ritter. “In the original recording, the vocal performance is something that carries you through that tale of pure discovery. Vocally, my immediate intention was to play the opposite. For the musical canvas, we wanted to take all the candy away from this song and feed it nothing but opiates, leaving you feeling as if the instrumentation itself was the nerves the lyrics were expressing”.
Dashboard Confessional lead singer Chris Carrabba adds, “When covering a song, we try to adhere as closely as we can to the most recognizable earmarks. Most importantly the melody. The fun comes in the choices the band can make around those earmarks. We had a blast making ‘Move Along’ ours. The song has so much color and power it was easy to feel inspired by it”.
The covers release on the heels of a very busy summer for The All-American Rejects. The band recently released a new 2-song EP titled SWEAT, featuring tracks “Sweat” and “Close Your Eyes” as well as an 11-minute powerful new short film that ties both songs together. Directed by Jamie Thraves (Radiohead, Coldplay, Sam Smith etc.), the short film tackles an array of complex themes dealing with one’s identity. The film, which has received wide critical praise since its July 7th release, can be viewed HERE.
