We’re happy to help Alex Bean and the Freaks debut their new album, “Actual Reality.” We say ‘their’ loosely because Bean played, recorded, and mixed everything on the album.
“I started music when I was young. I started out as a drummer. My older brother got a guitar but he couldn’t find a drummer. So, they bought a drum set and they kept it at my house. Every day after school I’d go down there and try and figure out how to play and I finally just taught myself drums. I taught myself guitar shortly after that. I figured out how to play power chords and I realized that it’s easy to make music – all you have to do is play power chords,” said a laughing Bean in a recent conversation with Alternative Addiction.
“Later, I got into recording. I’d go home and order books and teach myself engineering from the ground up. All the songs that are on this album were recorded late in my high school years and they were actually written early in my high school years.”
With key influences like Blink-182, Angels & Airwaves, and Green Day – you can hear how those bands help mold Bean’s music. You can toss a little Alkaline Trio in there too for good measure. Listen to the debut release below.
